Hawaii Pet Magazine

Congrats to our members that will attend the advanced screening of "earth"

Hawaii Pet Magazine is proud to be a Hawaii sponsor for earth, the first film in the Disney nature series! Narrated by James Earl Jones, earth follows the journey of three animal families as they travel our planet. Opening Nationwide Earth Day, April 22, 2009.

Hawaii Pet Magazine gave away passes (each pass admits 2) to the April 8 earth to our members that told us how they are reducing their carbon footprint (and pet's pawprint).

View the "earth" movie trailer.

Congratulations!!! View the member that will be attending the prescreening of earth and read about their "green" habits.

My family and I are reducing our carbon footprint by recycling all plastic bottles and cans.We reuse store bags for trash bags. Also we have changed all the light blubs in our home to energy saving CFLs. I also take short showers instead of long baths. When I am brushing my teeth I turn off the faucet when not using it. The biggest adjustment I've made was instead of driving my SUV to the university, I take the bus. Save money, save gas, save the world =)

The lights in the house that have 3 bulbs are unscrewed so there's only one or two burning at a time. I'm also unplugging toaster, coffeemaker, cellphone chargers and other chargers that create an energy drip on the grid. Already seen my utilities bill go down.

My pet rock just sits there as usual. But I can tell it approves of the extra effort. :)

Our family is removing our carbon imprint by switching to electronic bills, statements, and payments including declining a receipt at the gas pumps (it'll be on our online statement anyway).
Thank you for your great work!

I lowered my carbon emission by setting the garden sprinkler to water only at midnight instead of three times a day. Also, instead of turning on the air conditioner, I open all the windows in my home and turn on the ceiling fan. I do not leave any lights on in if it is not needed. We also changed all our lights to CFLs and our home is greener with the use of solar panels. I try to save water by using the water that is used to wash the rice to water the plants and used egg shells for fertilizer (really good for orchids). I drive sensibly so as to not waste gas (ie. not drive over speed limit, causing person to brake a lot). My family and I started planting our own vegetables to be self sustainable.

We are all about recycling everything including cardboard and magazines along with using fabric bags for shopping. We use CFL's for our home lighting and conserve water. If we are not using it, it is not on, and car pool every day day to work. I also work for an architecture company where our designs including our companies office include solar water heating, solar energy, energy efficient appliances, energy reduction, natural day lighting and ventilation. Many of our projects also have finish materials that are low VOC, rapidly renewable, recycled content, and reclaimed or FSC certified wood. We even made Christmas ornaments this past year out of old light bulbs, bottle caps, and old CDs...they turned out cute! Sustainable living is definitely apart of my life and my passion! =)

Vinnie and I use Melaleuca products. We have been using them since 1997. We love to eat fish and don't want any toxic agents killing our reefs and polluting our oceans. There's a great pet shampoo, too.
Being a product of the 60s and having parents that went through the depression recycling comes second nature. I love the fact that Hawaii is trying to move into alternative forms of energy so we don't have to pour more money into the Middle Eastern governments.
I have a yard full of green for the wonderful oxygen they give us. And the free fruit, hallelujah! Don't have the green thumb to grow all the veggies, but definitely buy local produce!
My electric bill has gone down from $130 to $80 and when I spoke to the BOW my water bill is as low as I can get it. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it. Thank God for His wonderful sunlight and tradewinds.
