Benjamin Samuel Ring-Robinson (Ben for short) was a Christmas miracle for my fiance and I. During the holiday season of 2006, I found a litter of hypo-allergenic puppies (my fiance is allergic to pet dander :( ) in a city about three hours away. I thought it would be the perfect surprise for him because we both shared a love for animals but it was hard to find any that met his allergy needs at the animal shelter. so, i made the three hour drive through the snow (from reno,nv to sacramento, ca) in search of the perfect holiday pooch.
upon arrival, I was taken aback by all of the lovely little creatures. Miniature black poodles roamed around while a litter of jack russell terriers were terrorizing a squeak toy. they were all jumping up in the air to be held by me and all equally very heartwarming. What a hard decision I had to make that day! But, it was then that I saw him. A tiny little boy maltese/shi tzu mix with the biggest brown eyes you have ever seen, a white coat, dotted with carmel brown spots, including both of his ears. But it wasn't only his adorable looks that left me weak in the knees, it was his mannerisms that made me decide to scoop him up and never let him go again. He was jumping up and down just like the other babies, but he also started nipping at my boots in an attempt to play.
On the ride home from California, he slept in my lap, not making a peep for the whole car ride home. When i arrived with this tiny ball of white fur in my arms, my fiance was speechless until he told me it was the best Christmas present he had ever received. We gave him a bath in the sink because he was far too tiny for the bathtub, and decided on a name for him. After much consideration, we narrowed it down to two names. And wouldn't you know it, one just happened to be Marley. In fact, we called him Marley for the first few days. But every time he got into something and my fiance would yell "Marley!" I would think he was calling my name (Mandy) and confusion would arise.
So, we decided on Ben after our favorite musician, Ben Harper.
Ben eventually made the move over to Hawaii with us where we are now preparing for our third Christmas with him. We always refer to him as our "Christmas dog" an he has truly changed our lives for the better.
here's a picture of ben on a hike with his dad behind our house in kaneohe and our christmas picture from last year. (yes, that is a santa hat on his head :). )

I would absolutely love to watch this movie! I got my dog last Christmas so this would be like a one year anniversary celebration. Plus this would be an awesome movie for my boyfriend to watch since he appears or says he doesn't LOVE animals but I then later I see him sleeping next to my dog haha

My first Rottie loved to unwrap gifts and I made sure I let her "open" all the presents that weren't fragile.

no tree for us now, because we were worried about our kasi eating all the needles. but now we have a beautiful wreath, and it provides much holiday cheer!
